Production Designer prepares a blue-print of the film, works in close collaboration with Producer, Director and other technical people prior to shooting. He/She designs characters, prepares story board and chalks out various role assignments, plans sets, locations, costumes, etc.

He/She also prepares drawings of various camera positions and lightings in consultation with Cinematographer, plans sound, and sound effects in consultation with Audiographer. A Production Designer's skills include basic visual awareness and design abilities. A theatre background and knowledge of conceptualising and creating a sense of visual drama helps. He/She should also have a good idea of fashion, architecture and history.
